CO6120 Renovation and Construction Works at Mile End Leisure Centre London Borough of Tower Hamlets

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is inviting suitably qualified and experienced construction contractors to tender for the renovation and extension works at Mile End Leisure Centre, located at 190 Burdett Road, London E3 4HL. The appointed contractor will be responsible for delivering a high-quality refurbishment of specific leisure facilities in accordance with current building regulations, health and safety standards, and the council’s objectives for accessible, inclusive, and modern public amenities. Mile End Leisure Centre is one of six leisure facilities recently brought back under direct management by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Following an internal review of building conditions and user feedback, several areas of the centre have been identified as requiring urgent investment to bring them up to modern standards. In particular, the wet changing facilities have been deemed substandard, with outdated fittings, deteriorated furniture, and obsolete storage lockers that are no longer fit for use. In response, the Council is undertaking a comprehensive refurbishment of these areas with a view to improving the customer experience, promoting inclusivity, and ensuring compliance with accessibility regulations such as the Equality Act 2010 and associated guidance. The scope of works will include: ? Refurbishment of the existing wet changing area, including replacement of all fittings, lockers, seating, and flooring with durable, hygienic, and vandalresistant materials. ? Reconfiguration of the changing spaces to provide a more flexible layout, incorporating: o Individual/personal changing cubicles, o Family-friendly changing areas, and o Enhanced accessible changing facilities for users with disabilities. ? Internal extension and refurbishment of the health suite, to improve spatial functionality and service delivery. ? Expansion and renovation of the Women’s Only Gym area to increase capacity and enhance the environment for users. ?
