HSE Estates SW: University Hospital Kerry (UHK): 30 Bed Ward Extension

Tender description

The proposed development involves the vertical expansion of the existing hospital building at University Hospital Kerry (UHK) to accommodate a new 30-bed inpatient ward. The works will be carried out in two phases: Phase 1A and Phase 1B. Phase 1A comprises a 7-bed inpatient ward with a gross floor area (GFA) of approximately 894m². This phase will also include the external thermal envelope (shell and core) for Phase 1B and is scheduled for completion by Q4 2025. Phase 1B involves the construction of an additional 23-bed inpatient ward, with a GFA of approximately 1,424m². Completion is targeted for Q2 2026. The combined GFA for the full development is approximately 2,320m². To facilitate construction, existing rooftop plant will be relocated to the roof of the new ward. Enabling works are scheduled to commence in Q3 2025, ahead of the main contract works. Key Elements of the Project: - Vertical extension of the existing hospital to create a new 30-bed inpatient ward. - Structural integration with the existing building. - Relocation of existing plant to the roof of the new ward. - Installation of new external cladding to match the existing façade. - Construction of a new stair core from Ground Floor, Level 1 to Level 2. - Installation of a new water attenuation pond. All works will be undertaken within a live, fully operational acute hospital campus that functions 24/7. Critical clinical services and hospital facilities will remain operational throughout the construction period.
