Avon Valley Greater Horseshoe Bat Radio Tracking The study would involve the trapping and radio tracking of greater horseshoe bats from their known roosts. For the purpose of this tender, it is envisaged this would involve up to six nights trapping likely April/May 2025 at known roosts entrances, fitting transmitters (and ringing) a maximum of 5 greater horseshoe bats from Moyles Court School (access pending) and/or other local roosts and tracking for 10 nights over two weeks. Radio-tracking fixes for each individual bat should be mapped and radiotracking data analysed to determine home ranges and foraging preferences. The aims of the study are to:? ?? Better understand size and structure of population of greater horseshoe bats? Identify other roost(s) used by the population?? Identify key commuting corridors / foraging areas and core sustenance zone (CSZ)? Identify habitat preferences?? Use this information to inform the local plan, site design, site allocation, Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) etc. Establish if there is a need for a specific policy to conserve/protect/enhance for this species? Identify opportunities to help expand this species range? Identify areas / habitats / landowners / structure types to target for follow up work to further develop these projects aims? ?
