Tender description

The QMRI East wing refurbishment works is an extensive redevelopment of the existing site, replacing standard molecular biology spaces to suite animal behavioural studies. This requires the entire strip out of these areas. There were existing fume cabinets in these areas, however they are more that 20 years old and were incompatible with variable air volume (VAV) control. VAV controlled fume cabinets feature energy-saving technology to reduce the volume of air taken from the fume cupboard and have been designed into the redevelopment to increase the energy efficiency of the lab. The Centre for Regenerative Medicine, Tissue Culture (TC) facility has requested and received funding to replace 16 x class II cabinets that are over 12 years old and beyond the manufacturer’s recommended lifespan of 10 years, some of which are beginning to show the start of an unrepairable, terminal fault with the sash motor/switch mechanism.
