GB-Basildon: Public Health Funerals

Tender description

Basildon Borough Council wishes to appoint a suitable provider that are able service for arranging public funerals. This is where a member of the public dies in Basildon and doesn't have any family, or anybody able, including financially to arrange and carry out the burial. Since the start of 2020/21, Basildon Council has taken on burials formerly carried out voluntarily by Basildon Hospital. The NHS has reviewed their approach to burials and decided to withdraw their service. Burials are undertaken at minimal cost having regard to respectfully consider the wishes of the deceased. Basildon Council has reviewed the levels of funerals and has decided that it is appropriate to revisit this as a potential contract. Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement.
