Tender description
Based on data from Skills for Care 2021/22, the Sheffield workforce consists of 15,000 jobs across a range of provider services. There are 226 regulated provider services in Sheffield that provide a range of services including residential care homes, supported living, domiciliary care agencies and day services. The number of social care jobs is predicted to grow 32 per cent nationally by 2035. We need to develop the market to respond to the growth in demand for care. We also need to support care providers as providers, including Sheffield Council, find it difficult to recruit and retain care workers. Reasons for this include issues with the quality and availability of learning and development, wellbeing support, and unclear career progression pathways. Skills for Care (2020) research has found that the likelihood of a worker leaving their role decreased if the worker had more training. We want to support the workforce’s retention within the care sector by creating incentives for care staff to undertake training through an enhanced rewards scheme. We want to develop a web portal to deliver and record training (for care professionals working in independent and local authority services) which is paired with incentives so that the more training that a care worker does, the greater the benefits package they can receive. We also want to develop portable care certificates so that when care staff move jobs to another care provider, they can show what training they have already undertaken, avoiding training being duplicated. We are seeking to procure the services of an organisation to host a subscription-based online platform to be accessed by care staff and providers.
