Verbal Reasoning and Calculation Assessments

Police Regulations set out the list of qualifications required to commence as a Police Officer. When Oleeo was implemented, agreement was made with the Higher Education Institutes that partner with the Welsh Forces, the numerical calculation test could be viewed as equivalent to the Level 3 requirements. This test had two elements Verbal Reasoning and Calculation (maths). It is a key requirement of the supplier to provide the tests and supporting materials in both Welsh and English to comply with the Welsh Language Act. Level 3 is the level of attainment (in terms of breadth and depth) which, in the opinion of the Secretary of State, is demonstrated by the General Certificate of Education at the advanced level in two subjects. The verbal reasoning and numerical calculation tests are currently also used for PCSO recruitment; albeit at a level adjusted to a level 2 qualification in Maths & English.
