Low carbon heat opportunity map

Tender description

This project would create an opportunity map which consolidates the myriad of low carbon heating options available to decarbonise the NHS estate. It will consolidate information available on heat network sources (planned and existing) and emerging sources of low carbon fuels, such as hydrogen or biogas. This map will ensure that trusts and NHS buildings that are in areas of planned or existing heat networks, planned hydrogen or biogas sources, would be informed of these systems. It will provide / complete an initial desktop assessment to help appraise these opportunities in lieu of alternative electric-led heat sources. This enables the NHS estate to move to low carbon heat sources in the most economically advantageous way and allows the NHS to deliver its role as an anchor institute. The deliverable of this project will be a guidance document which gives financial, carbon and planning advice to NHS organisations that might benefit from low carbon heat sources. This document will enable trusts to understand the opportunities from low carbon heat and support their business cases for heat decarbonisation. It will also enable NHSE to calculate the financial investment and savings to be gained from national take up of low carbon heat sources.
