Independent Travel Training Service

Tender description

The London Borough of Brent requires the establishment and provision of an independent travel training service to provide tailored and practical help for individuals with special educational needs, disabilities or mobility difficulties to give them the skills and confidence to travel independently to school or college. The service will be delivered by trained and accredited travel trainer Service Provider who will assess the needs and abilities of each individual and design a personalised travel training programme for them. Each individual’s programme will cover key skills such as personal and road safety awareness, journey planning and preparation, leaving the home safely, coping in emergencies or unexpected circumstances, and using technology such as smart travel (oyster) cards and mobile phones. The programme will be delivered in a flexible and supportive way, primarily on a one-to-one basis but may also include activities in groups or in a classroom. The intention is that trainers will accompany the individual on their chosen route and gradually reduce their support as the individual gains confidence and competence.
