Tender description
The MCA plays a unique role within Government in discharging statutory hydrographic obligations under the United Nations’ Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention. Protection of Wrecks Act 1973, Section 2 Surveys – SS Richard Montgomery: Section 2 of the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973 (PoWA) allows for the designation of wrecks which are deemed to be dangerous by virtue of their contents. This section of the Act is administered by the DfT, however, elements of the management of wrecks designated under Section 2 of this Act have been delegated to the MCA, and this includes regular monitoring surveys where required. The focus of this survey requirement is the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery (SSRM).
