Conifer Felling Elan Valley

Tender description

Conifer regen felling from a 15 hectare site in the Elan valley near Penglaneinon, just over 6 miles to the west of Rhayader (Grid ref SN912625). This site is being allowed to revert to broadleaf woodland and it requires felling to waste of self-seeded non-native conifer regen throughout the site. There are four dense areas of conifer which require heavy thinning, as shown in the map below, and also conifer saplings (mostly larch and Douglas fir) scattered throughout the site.The work will take place as part of the Celtic Rainforest LIFE project, which is a seven-year LIFE-funded project, focussed on improving the condition of woodland in five SACs across Wales. Project work includes eradication of Rhododendron ponticum and other invasive plant species, implementing woodland grazing projects and undertaking woodland management. The project is led by Eryri National Park Authority, with RSPB Cymru and Woodland Trust as delivery partners.A site visit will be needed in order to quote accurately.
