Tender description

The NHS Health Check is a local authority mandatory service (www.nhs.uk). It is free for adults in England aged 40-74 years who have not been already diagnosed with a health condition. It is an assessment of risk for cardiovascular disease which includes stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes and dementia. The NHS Health Check identifies those at risk and facilitates a clinical or behavioural change intervention that aims to lower the risk. In Cambridgeshire there are approximately 195,000 adults who are eligible for their health check once every 5 years. Those eligible for the NHS Health Check are identified through GP practice records and invited for an NHS Health Check. This procurement is to undertake a “catch up” programme for NHS Health Checks impacted on by the COVID-19 pandemic, undertaking activity for GP’s who continue to have reduced capacity to deliver NHS Health Checks, or have prioritised other healthcare services for direct, internal delivery. The contract requires direct access to GP records to send the invite as the mandate for the service requires this level of data collection, the purpose of this service is supporting individual GPs, commissioned through a separate contract to meet targets, including sending formal invitations. This is an activity-based contract, initially for 3 years, with the option to extend by up to 2 years. The authority intends to award contracts under Provider Selection Regime Direct Award B.
