Cambridge Street, Aylesbury - Public Realm Improvements

Cambridge Street Public Realm scheme forms part of the wider Aylesbury Public Realm regeneration proposals and includes: A level ‘at grade’ surface from its junction with The Harrow public house to no.22 Cambridge Street. Greening and festoon lighting to enhance a sense of place, to enable businesses to utilise the pavement for tables and chairs and to encourage dwell time in the area. To build on the benefits of the permanent road closure and create an attractive environment along this section of the street which has a number of independent businesses. A preliminary design for a new public realm scheme on Cambridge Street has been developed between the Harrow public house and No.22(see attached plan). The scheme can be delivered using highways permitted development rights. The scheme will consist of flushed surfaces (currently an asphalt finish) for accessibility, new drainage provisions as well as new commercial bin stores and festoon lighting. Design proposals with input from local businesses in Cambridge Street together with key stakeholders. Following a period of engagement with key stakeholders, the detailed design for the scheme will be completed by the end of May 2024. It is proposed that a contractor will be procured during June 2024 and the works completed by September/October 2024. Keywords: surfacing
