Review of Approaches to Mission Strategy Evaluation

The Evaluation and Audit Unit(EAU) of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) commissioned a “benchmarking” exercise in 2023 to establish how some peer donors address evaluations of country / Embassy strategies. EAU and Africa Unit are now conducting a joint review of approaches to Embassy strategy evaluations (formerly Country Strategy Programmes, or CSPs) to contribute to organisational learning. The purpose of this review is to gather feedback on the experiences to date of the relevant Embassies, the Africa Unit and the Evaluation and Audit Unit on the recent approaches taken to Strategy evaluations. The outcomes of the review will inform the revision of DFA’s Evaluation Operations Manual (2012) which is planned for 2024 and any subsequent review of the Embassy Strategy Guidance document.
