Ion Microprobe, Ion Mass Spectrometer (SIMS) Lot 1: This procurement is for an Ion Microprobe which is a one-off purchase with a 3-year maintenance and support plan which will run from date of commissioning until 3- years post commissioning and acceptance. Cameca is the only company in the world that manufactures and sells magnetic sector Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer (SIMS) instruments. These instruments use a combination of dual primary ion sources (Oxygen and Caesium), a secondary ion column including a combination of an electrostatic sector and a magnetic sector associated with a powerful detection system that were part of the specification required to meet the requirements for this purchase. This instrument’s design, versatility and specification is unique and essential to meet the diverse analytical requirements of NERC and the UK Earth and Environmental Science community.
