Serious Violence Duty Interventions

The Serious Violence Duty is part of the Government’s approach to prevent and reduce serious violence. The duty focuses on taking a multi-agency approach to understanding the drivers and impact of serious violence, with a focus on prevention and early intervention. As part of the local implementation of the Serious Violence Duty, Lewisham has completed a Strategic Needs Assessment and developed a Serious Violence Strategy, with the aim to prevent and reduce serious crime in the Borough. One of our Strategy commitments is to deliver solutions co-developed with communities and local grassroots organisations, focusing on local priorities, strengths and challenges. We know that community-led solutions have the potential to be more relevant to local people and to encourage people at risk of involvement in violence to participate.
