Tender description

Network Rail maintains a railway network which includes 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, and thousands of signals and level crossings across Great Britain. Its Air Operations team, which is responsible for capturing aerial data and sits within Route Services (a central Network Rail business function), is looking to retender its current aerial derived data repository system. This should accommodate the increased growth in image capture and quality while removing the reliance on hardware specific (e.g. helicopter vs drone) data image accuracy. The system currently in use is a cloud-based image collaboration tool that helps to manage, view, maintain and analyse the network. Requirements To provide a system that can deliver the capabilities and functionalities specified below for business as usual services, this includes a cloud-based repository system with support and maintenance services. • This system must provide an efficient mechanism for uploading data collected in hard drives and SD cards. • Capability to migrate, store and provide BAU access to the historical data, this is roughly 1.7m images held in the current system. • System must be capable of using associated accuracy data to correctly plot where image was taken on mapping software. • To not be limited to the use of one type of image accuracy data file. System must allow for Network Rail to invest in new hardware when required. • Images to be stitched together to allow users to scroll through them in real time. • An intuitive and user-friendly system that allows end users to quickly locate, view and interrogate the most recent images captured for a specific location • The system must be able to provide access to the existing user base, roughly 17,000 internal and external users, with the opportunity to increase the user base.
