UCC Enterprise Centre Deep Retrofit

Tender description

UCC plan to carry out a deep retrofit of the 2915 sq. m existing Enterprise Centre building under the EEDPP (Energy Efficient and Decarbonisation Pathfinder Program). The Enterprise Building, constructed in 1980, was originally used by the IDA as an enterprise / industrial centre for small to medium size enterprises. Located at the Distillery Fields, North Mall, the building was purchased by UCC in 1998 and was initially used as a teaching school for nursing. Since 2004, it has been home to the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) as well as Applied Psychology. The building was extended on the ground floor in 2018 with the inclusion of some new offices and a staff canteen. The building archetype would be classed as a mixed-use type. The 2- storey building accommodates small to medium sized classrooms, teaching and post graduate labs, single and multi-occupancy offices as well as a cafeteria. The building has a concrete frame with ground bearing slab, concrete block external walls and pre-cast concrete coffered first floor slab. The roof is predominantly non-insulated profiled metal sheeting on steel purlins. The external walls construction includes 50mm extruded polystyrene insulation, 50mm cavity and 100mm fair faced brickwork, in addition to concrete block inner leaf with a painted finish. The windows in the original building are all single glazed, uPVC frames.
