GA006 - Boggart Bridge structural repairs

Tender description

Boggart Bridge is a masonry arch bridge structure which straddles Copy Clough within Towneley Park, Burnley. The bridge carries mainly pedestrian traffic, with some light agricultural vehicle movements. The bridge has been subject to structural failure of the voussoir and spandrel wall on the downstream face, caused by apparent undercutting of the structure at the downstream end. This has result in a partial closure of the bridge for several months. Burnley Borough Council are looking to carry out necessary structural repair works to enable the full reopening of the bridge whilst also future proofing the structure for the long term. Scheme works will include: - Repairs to the voussoir and spandrel wall; - Repairs to the damaged section of weir within the barrel of the bridge; - Repairs and installation of additional measures to protect the lefthand downstream wing-walls from future erosion; - Reinstatement of the right hand wall downstream of the bridge, including tie-in to the bridge structure; Please note that installation and removal of the designated Bridge Arch support system, as designed by MGF, will be undertaken as part of a separate contract arrangement.
