Project Union and Hydrogen Backbone Request for Information

National Gas Transmission (NGT) are keen to engage with companies and/or organisations who specialise in a diverse range of project related activities from early concept through to final commissioning and ongoing maintenance. At this stage, NGT is requesting information regarding interest in; Market appetite and opinion on key strategic options as well as gauging your interest in NGT as a client you would be interested in working with. Majority of these services, works and products will be focused on Hydrogen. This Request for Information is targeted for pipeline design services, construction, systems integrators, materials and OEM suppliers. Lot 1: Project Union is a pioneering project led by NGT to create a UK hydrogen backbone, transporting 100% hydrogen, connecting hydrogen production and storage with end users. Through the phased repurposing of existing high pressure gas transmission network infrastructure, the backbone will comprise of repurposed assets, representing up to 25% of the UK's current methane transmission network. Where necessary this will be supplemented with some new infrastructure by the early 2030s. Project Union will connect, enable net zero and empower a UK hydrogen economy, repurposing existing transmission pipelines to create a hydrogen 'backbone' for the UK by the early 2030s. Your feedback at this stage may help to inform and guide the future procurement, commercial and delivery strategy that helps to deliver goods, works and services. The objective is to engage with the market and obtain feedback relating to the potential interest to participate in procurement events that would potentially result in participants being selected as an approved suppliers to delivery Project Union.
