Tender description
NTA is an independent statutory body responsible for securing the provision of public transport passenger services including light rail services. TII is an independent statutory body responsible for the provision of light rail infrastructure. TII owns the Luas infrastructure and rolling stock, and manages the current Luas O and M Contract under assignment from NTA. The Luas system currently comprises 43km of track, 67 stops, 3 depots and 81 light rail vehicles. Luas is expected to carry 48 million passenger journeys in 2023. An extension to the system (Luas Finglas) is currently being planned with an expected opening date in 2031. This extension will add a further 4 stops and 4 km of track to the system. Further expansion of the system is anticipated over the period of the new O and M contract or contracts. It is anticipated that the new Luas O and M contract or contracts will commence in Q4 2026 for a period of five to seven years, with options to extend by up to a further five to seven years.
