Kent County Council (the Council) is the largest county council in England, covering an area of 3 500 square kilometres. It has an annual expenditure of over GBP 900 000 000 on goods and services and a population of 1 300 000. The Council provides a wide range of personal and strategic services on behalf of its residents, operating in partnership with 12 district councils and 305 parish and town councils. The Council is responsible for maintaining over 550,000 highway trees across the County. The service is for highway tree works term maintenance, provided primarily through programmed and ad-hoc work as well as street tree planting in order to meet the Councils environmental target. There is also in-built flexibility for emergency call-out provision. • Arboriculturally maintenance: o Managing obstructions to the highway from low branches o Pruning back trees from private property/structures & street furniture o Removal of dead/diseased and dying trees o Ash dieback remedial works o Removal of deadwood/ivy/climbing plants/foreign objects o Undertaking and repeating crown reduction/annual programmed pollarding works o Annual basal and epicormic programmed works o Tree planting and young tree establishment maintenance – weeding, watering and mulch • Ad-hoc works relating to the highway soft estate management, tree safety audits and response to customer enquiries Keywords: Arboricultural, Tree, Tree Maintenance , Arboricultural, Tree Planting , arboriculturalist
