To date, a Discovery & Alpha project has taken place to develop a prototype online portal, currently known as MyMCA, that enables our seafarer customers to apply for services online. This cleared GDS assessment in 2022. A multi-disciplinary team is required for a discovery exercise to help us understand how the customer experience for ship owner/ operators and other similar customer groups can be improved through digitisation. An alpha phase is to follow to iteratively develop prototype(s) to demonstrate how their user journeys can be incorporated into the MyMCA portal. Where the supplied staff will work No specific location (for example they can work remotely) Who the organisation using the products or services is Maritime & Coastguard Agency Why the work is being done Our vision is to utilise digital technology to provide customers with the ability to carry out their business online and to replace manual processes with modern, secure, digital technology. To date, a Discovery & Alpha project has taken place to develop a prototype that enables our seafarer customers to apply for services online. This cleared GDS assessment in 2022. This additional Discovery & Alpha project aims to explore the user journeys, pain points and needs of our Ship owner/operators and third-party ship personnel management organisations/others and demonstrate how their user journeys can be modernised through MyMCA platform. The business problem you need to solve Services relevant to our customers are typically delivered through various systems/teams which creates a disjointed and often frustrating customer experience. Many services rely on resource intensive manual processes and emails and/or telephone calls to/from customers for information and application tracking. The MCA wants to improve/replace existing processes, with the support of digital technology, to enable our customers to securely log into the portal and carry out their business online. This may include, but is not limited to, booking services and paying for services, managing personal information, viewing certificates and application tracking. By introducing process improvements we anticipate streamlining for the benefit for internal staff also. Due to the wide range of customer types, role based access is key to offering the right services to the right customers; this is a particular challenge with Ship Owner/Operators and Third Parties to ensure that access is granted to the right people with the right level of permissions. Managing access and permissions is just one of the key problems to be solved.
