Sport, physical and wellbeing activities are growing in strategic significance, being recognised as having the potential to contribute to many health, social and economic objectives. Sport has historically played an important part of life within the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area and there has been an extensive commitment to the provision of major leisure facilities both in indoor and outdoor leisure. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council (NMDDC) wish to develop a 5-year Sport, Physical Activity, and Wellbeing Strategy to facilitate stronger partnership working between sports, sports clubs and health service providers. This will improve opportunities for citizens to become more active, healthier and excel to the highest possible level in their own designated sports. This 5-year Strategic Plan will shape and lead the Council's Sports Development in addressing club development needs and financial assistance.
