Thinning in dense birch area (2.8 ha) Removal of 2 in every 3 three trees, retaining oak and other native species in a random pattern of felling, no straight lines. Halo thinning of any mature oaks to the crown drip-line. Removal of any non-native conifers throughout the wood Retention of the occasional ‘willow tit’ pole in birch. The retention of all standing deadwood. stacking of brash in stable piles which are not touching the base of any trees or rocks which might support lichen interest Halo thinning and thinning of other birch below felling licence size elsewhere in the wood four person days (ie two days of two people) of this work will be needed, working with guidance from an RSPB staff member. Stem injecting: Stem injecting with glyphosate 8 large mature beech trees, 4 in each of the areas shown on the map. These trees will be marked with blue paint. Handpulling or stem injecting with glyphosate any beech regen in area A Period: October 2022 to 1st December 2023
