The principle purpose of these contracts are to help young people overcome barriers and develop the personal and employment skills that will support them in moving into, or sustaining, education, employment or training outcomes. This will offer a different and bespoke option for young people Post 16. It will be a stepping stone programme that will provide an alternative range of ongoing transition routes into education, employment or training as and when the young person is ready. The programme will build on the ethos of collaborative partnership delivery that enables bespoke solutions to each young person, building on their strengths and putting them firmly at the centre of their future. The provision provided will be at different education levels to reflect the varied profiles of our NEET young people. Intuitive Thinking Skills is a peer led organisation specialising in offering simple educationally backed and accredited mentoring solutions for young people. They are here to help young people help themselves by inspiring change and delivering simple yet powerful attitudinal and behavioural change techniques. Their mission is to “empower young people through education” to make positive changes that benefit them, their families and their communities. Their structured Mentoring is designed to address Young People’s educational needs while developing crucial life skills that support improvements in confidence, self-esteem, resilience, personal responsibility and attitudinal behavioural change. Focusing on reducing risk, increasing engagement with Post16 education (or employment) and improving mental health and wellbeing. Their methodology involves using peer mentors with a wealth of relevant lived experience to pass on skills in an immersive environment, arming young people to tackle their barriers to achieve improved health, social mobility, parenting skills, reduced harm or abstinence from substances and empowering young people to achieve their own stated outcomes. They will work closely with the other partners on the contract, building on the ethos of collaborative partnerships, our specialist mentors will forge bespoke solutions for the young people they work with, to build on their strengths and put them firmly at the centre of their future. Mentors are proactive in becoming familiar and knowledgeable about Somerset, its partnerships and bespoke opportunities available for young people, tactfully inspiring their ambition to make the most of them. Their structured Mentoring is designed to address Young People’s educational needs while developing crucial life skills that support improvements in confidence, self-esteem, resilience, personal responsibility and attitudinal behavioural change. Focusing on reducing risk, increasing engagement with Post16 education (or employment) and improving mental health and wellbeing. Their Mentors are highly experienced and are invested in helping young people get what they want out of life. The Mentor will understand how young people feel because they have been in similar situations themselves and want to listen to young people and help them to address any problems or difficulties they may have. They respect young people’s lived experience and don’t patronize them, making mentoring sessions interesting and fun. Mentors are experienced in working with young people and qualified to minimum Level 3 Education and Training, with specialised tutors holding QTS status. All are also trained to minimum level 2 Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and children. 1.5 x WTE Advocate Mentor working 5 days per week based on 1 year, with a caseload of young people aged 16 or over. Mentors will see participants both face to face and virtually depending on the individual’s needs. This could involve engaging participants at the home residence, at the local hubs or at partner venues across the county.
