Tender description

BIM Regional Development Officers cover the coast of Ireland, providing a wide range of services using GIS to the local aquaculture industry to improve coastal zone management. The team works in challenging locations weather and environmental conditions for the equipment; most data collection sessions are subjected to rain, sand, seawater, mud, dust, sunlight in areas with limited or no network coverage. GNSS receiver will also be used on rugged shores and aboard small vessels and therefore it must be small light and easily stowed. Survey areas range from inshore waters on small vessels, to muddy sand intertidal areas accessed on foot for limited periods during low tide. It should be a robust design with various carrying options and should be capable of wireless or Bluetooth connection with the handset. The handset will be in sustained use in challenging conditions therefore ergonomic and environmental considerations including but not limited to, robust design, secure handheld option, screen clarity in glare, functionality of screen when wet and audible alarm. The receiver and handset together should enable the user to have one hand free at all times.
