Light-Weight Torpedo (LWT) - Sting Ray Mid-Life Upgrade

This opportunity listing is to bring the Authority’s Sting-Ray Mid Life Upgrade requirement onto the Defence Sourcing Portal. To summarise, the requirement is for the Assessment Phase of the Sting Ray Light-Weight Torpedo (LWT) Mid-life Upgrade Programme , to deliver an upgrade to the existing Sting Ray Mod 1 Torpedo. The Torpedoes, Tomahawk & Harpoon (TTH) Project Team, part of the UK Ministry of Defence, intend to place a Contract with BAE Systems Surface Ships Limited (BAE Systems) for the Assessment Phase of the Sting Ray Mod 1 Mid-life Upgrade Programme. It is the Authority’s intention to award the contract without prior publication of a contract notice, because the upgrade required by the Secretary of State for Defence can only be delivered by BAE Systems for technical reasons. This is because BAE Systems are the Design Authority for the Sting Ray Light Weight Torpedo and the only economic entity deemed to have the necessary technical data, weapon-specific knowledge, expertise, and proprietary documentation to perform the work within the quality, time, and performance parameters. The current assumption is that future Contract(s) shall be awarded to BAE Systems, subject to funding, for Demonstration through to Manufacture Phases which will be subject to their own Voluntary Transparency Notices.
