Tender description

EQUANS on behalf of North East Lincolnshire is seeking a suitably qualified principal contractor for the refurbishment of Corporation Bridge, which is a grade 2 listed structure. Specialist contractors will be required who have the experience with working on historic assets of this type Due to the age of the structure it's materials, and the aggressive environment, many elements of the structure are deteriorating. • Widespread corrosion and section loss of the below deck metal elements including the structural girders (both longitudinal and transverse), the bearings, and connecting elements including the rivets. • Particularly heavy corrosion and section loss to the first cross beam of the moving span, due to water ingress from the adjacent joint. This includes 50% section loss to some stiffeners. • Damage and deterioration to the timber "Acme" deck panels and sealant to the lifting section carriageway. • Extensive failure of protective pain system below the deck level, and area failures of same above the deck level Lot 1: The proposed works will include the following : Mechanical Replace filler plates and protective casing to mechanical elements. Free, scour, clean, and grease roller bearings. Upgrade of electrical control system for the lifting mechanism. Structural Scour away corrosion to all elements, repair steel where needed by splicing in new metal, replace corroded rivets. This may involve replacing the steel deck plates, depending on their condition. Remove invasive plant life and repair various cracked and damaged stone copings and brickwork in abutments and wing walls. This may involve structural sheet piling works to redistribute loading away from failing brick elements. Replace deteriorating Acme carriageway panels and sealant. Clear and upgrade inadequate superstructure drainage. Bridge waterproof replacement. Repair works to the substructure at each end of the bridge and the piers, supporting the main structure. Undertake conservation works to the Control Room. Aesthetics Remove failing / failed paint system (likely abrasive blasting), and repaint entire structure. It is hoped that an improved paint system, such as a resinous paint system, will be used as the primary protective system, potentially with an outer coat of traditional paint in order to satisfy the listing. This would extend the lifespan of the refurbished structure and give a greater return on investment. Bridge lighting improvements. Additional information: A principal contractor will be appointed to oversee all of the elements of the work. Therefore dividing the tender into lots was not an option
