<p>Jersey is a parliamentary democracy which is a dependency of the British Crown. It is a British island but is not part of the United Kingdom (UK), nor is it a colony. As such the GOJ are charged with raising taxes and expending these on the welfare and wellbeing of the inhabitants of the island. The GOJ currently has a bespoke customs freight handling system capable of sustaining the efficient day-to-day management traded goods as per the islands obligations under the Jersey - UK Customs Arrangement and provides for the collection and administration of all import taxes including Goods and Services Tax (GST), excise duties, third country customs duties and Vehicle Emissions Duty (VED). Responsibility for day-to-day operations falls to Jersey Customs and Immigration Service (JCIS).</p> Keywords: Customs
