Tender description

An Bord Iascaigh Mhara, a semi-State body, wishes to invite tenders for the provision of Project Management & Architectural Services for a sea survival pool and associated infrastructure in Greencastle, Co. Donegal. Sea Survival Training Facility The proposed infrastructure is a sea survival training facility, primarily a pool or tank; a navigation simulator and a radio suite to bring the college up to the standard of a centre of excellence able to provide student-centric courses of the highest quality. The provision of a fit-for-purpose pool, together with the provision of new, modern training equipment would result in a high-quality national asset that would be a centre of excellence, of significant value to industry and able to provide all the instruction needed to equip seafarers for current and future skills that they will need. BIM would intend to make this a “green pool” by including an appropriate renewal energy source to power the pumps, heating and filtration system. This would be both in keeping with national policy and would keep energy costs (running costs) low. BIM have held initial discussion with SEAI in this regard, and it appears that the SEAI ‘Exeed’ grant, which supports energy efficient design may be an appropriate fit for this project. This may include air or ground source heat pump systems, solar or thermal systems, heat recovery, rainwater collection, thermal pool cover, or ventilation control for addressing humidity issues. The grant may, depending on the design that BIM uses, support expertise and capital support for energy efficient design. Note - The Navigation Simulator and Radio are both being procured by BIM separately and do not need to be project managed as part of this contract. An Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) was established under the Irish Sea Fisheries Act in 1952 and is the Irish State agency responsible for developing the Irish seafood industry. Our head office is in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.
