Tender description

The Ilen Marine School seeks a supplier for marine educational services. The services will unfold in modules of training. This training must be provided to participants onboard the ketch AK Ilen – specific training that will include marine skills, vessel handling, estuarine ecology and cultural discourses on the broad subject of the historic Shannon Estuary. The Ilen Marine School has designed the training modules to support communities and businesses in the West Limerick area of Ireland on the southern shore of the Shannon Estuary. The training modules are an amalgam of universal marine skills, modulated to the unique tidal topography of the Shannon Estuary, along with cultural training drawn directly from the history and aquatic folk traditions of this significant Irish estuarine coastal area. The overarching objective of this training is to give individuals and groups from West Limerick a broader knowledge base on the Shannon Estuary's marine environment. Particularly aquatic ways for the appropriation, sustainably, of the immense power of the tidal Estuary for tourism, enterprise, maritime transport and cultural awareness. While custom-designed primarily for West Limerick area participation, the training modules will also involve individuals beyond the area as part of the objective of promoting the Shannon Estuary to external audiences.
