Tender description

The Department is required to undertake a Marine Litter Survey for 2022. This is required to be done as part of Ireland’s commitments under the OSPAR Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic (OSPAR) and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). One of the MSFD’s qualitative descriptors for GES is that ‘properties and quantities of litter do not cause harm, to the coastal and marine environment’. Litter on five beaches is to be monitored on four occasions during 2022. The data from these surveys will form part of Ireland’s contribution to the OSPAR beach litter monitoring programme. Four of these five beaches have been continually monitored on four occasions per annum from 2013 to 2021. The successful tenderer shall undertake beach litter monitoring surveys at the five designated beaches in accordance with OSPAR beach litter monitoring protocols.
