PROVISION OF RESEARCH TO EXPLORE AND EVALUATE INTERNATIONAL MECHANISMS THAT AIM TO REVALUE OR RESULT IN THE REVALUATION OF WOMEN’S WORK

Tender description

The aim of this research is to improve understanding of international mechanisms that aim to revalue, or result in the revaluation of, women’s work. This research is taken forward as part of Scottish Government’s work to promote gender equality and reduce the gender pay gap through the Gender Pay Gap Action Plan. The Scottish Government (SG), on behalf of Scottish Ministers, wishes to commission research to improve understanding of international mechanisms that aim to revalue, or result in the revaluation of, women’s work. This research is taken forward as part of Scottish Government’s work to promote gender equality and reduce the gender pay gap through the Gender Pay Gap Action Plan . It therefore starts from a position of considerable evidence showing that women are at a disadvantage in the labour market and that women’s work is generally undervalued, as summarised in the following sections. Undervaluation is defined as women receiving lower pay for their education and work experience compared to men. This research is not asking for further proof of the undervaluation of women’s work, but for the identification of practical mechanisms and approaches that have been utilised internationally to seek to redress the balance between men and women in the labour market along with reasoned analysis of their effectiveness and applicability.
