Tender description

In order to perform precautionary salting and snow clearing operations during the 2021/22 winter season it is necessary to obtain a framework of Contractors to provide additional gritter drivers. Precautionary salting requirements are identified from the daily weather forecasts throughout the winter period. Instructions for any required action is usually received by 12:00 hrs each day although this can alter if worsening conditions are forecast. In order to be able to respond to these instructions a standby rota of gritter drivers is compiled for all routes in each operational base over the winter period. Standby shift patterns are typically on a weekly basis as below: Please note that the same driver cannot undertake back to back am/pm stand by duties. Mon – Thur (incl) 00:00 to 08:00hrs am Mon – Thur (incl) 16:00 to 24:00hrs pm Fri - 15:30 to 24:00hrs pm Sat 00:00 to 12:00hrs am Sat - 12:00 to 24:00hrs pm Sun 00:00 to 12:00hrs am Sun - 12:00 to 24:00hrs pm Work Hours = Number of actual hours worked including weekends. Excluding Bank Holidays Stand-by = Drivers will be advised they are on Stand-by and paid accordingly for the number of hours until either work commences or Stand-by ends. The maximum period of Stand–by is 7 days, after this period either the Stand-by will end and the driver is no longer required or Stand- by will re-start for up to a further 7 days. Compensatory = In line with DCC employees, DCC will pay for Drivers that have Rate exceed their working hours and are required to take a rest period during the working day. If the driver is employed by DCC on an item of plant you must replace that driver , DCC will only pay for operated hours. Compensatory rest will only be paid for working time whilst in employment by DCC. You must ensure that your drivers abide by the driving hours regulations and the working time directive and are able to work the full shift if required (8hrs weekdays and 12 hrs weekends ) Note: Where an instructed salting operation runs through the working hours above the route is to be completed by the initial driver. Presently there are 4 operational bases where these requirements may be necessary, which are: • Chapel-en-le-Frith (SK23 0PQ) • Stonegravels, Chesterfield (S41 7LG) • Ryder Point, Wirksworth (DE4 4HE) • Willington (DE65 6BT) inclusive of Risley Depot (NG10 5NP)
Keywords: WM Operatives
