Tender description

Dublin is a key location for Waterways Ireland where a range of strategic infrastructure developments are already underway or at planning stage. These include initiatives being led by Waterways Ireland or where Waterways are a major stakeholder. In Dublin, both Grand Canal and Spencer Docks have undergone transformation in the past two decades and are included in the North Lotts and Grand Canal Dock Strategic Development Zone. Further out on both the Royal and the Grand Canal in Dublin City Council, Fingal and South Dublin County Council areas, the Canals are key elements of Strategic Development Zones, Local Area Plans and Masterplans and some key private developments. Waterways Ireland has already collated and carried out a number of development studies, examples listed below: I. Resource mapping third party plans and proposed developments which impact on Dublin Canals and the surrounding area. II. Desktop review of a plethora of the studies, proposals and plans carried out internally and mapped the progress of the recommendations. III. Tourism feasibility analysis of a 40 km Circular Canal Greenway, with 20km ‘short-cut’. IV. Conceptual designs drafted for key developments in the Docklands. The time is opportune for Waterways Ireland to define and document coherently its vision for Dublin Docklands and the canals to maximise the unique water asset in the city and county. The organisation is now seeking to develop a detailed resource which clearly maps out all of these proposed developments and their interdependencies. This exercise will identify any gaps in infrastructure and service provision which can be planned over the next decade. The process will create the conditions to identify potential opportunities for Waterways Ireland or other stakeholders which will deliver value for Dublin.
