Tender description

The Riverine Environmental Project- Phase 1 has demonstrated the role of the environment and the benefits to well-being in peace and reconciliation. As with the initial project the extension project will continue to bring people from different communities together in the natural environment and highlight similar issues, opportunities and assets in all areas, regardless of religion, class or ethnicity. Positive environmental action will be used as a tool for peace building and community development. Due to the SEUPB cross-community target of 48per cent CNR, 48per cent PUL and 4per cent BME, it was considered beneficial to draw up a target area of a 12km radius from the Strabane/Lifford Bridge, in order to actively engage with the PUL community in particular. Given that Strabane town itself is 96per cent CNR, research indicated that by including outlying villages and communities, the balanced target could be achieved satisfactorily. Tender Suppliers may wish to tender individually or alternatively a collaborative bid between a consortium of suppliers will be considered, so long as the required specifications are met. A programme of positive environmental actions which take into account the three cross-cutting themes of Learn More, Explore More and Do More which has emerged from the Environmental Action Plan Model developed in Phase 1 of the Riverine Programme. Locations should be chosen to encourage participants to visit sites which are from different communities and on both sides of the border. Participants will be involved in a programme of positive environmental action. Activities should focus on one particular environmental theme with learning, exploring and action opportunities intrinsic to the session. An example of this may be a session built around the environmental importance of trees- a session designed teach participants the importance of tree planting for biodiversity, carbon/ water storage and soil stabilisation (LEARN MORE); with an opportunity to explore a natural area (EXPLORE MORE); followed by a tree planting activity (DO MORE). Please refer to CfT documents for further details.
