Ground Investigation Works Ballinasloe Flood Relief Scheme

Tender description

As part of the Ballinasloe Flood Relief Scheme, it is proposed to construct a series of flood defences along the River Suck and its tributary watercourses. These defences are primarily comprised of embankments or walls, which range in height from 0.6 m to 2.7 m. The defences stretch from Derrymullan in the north, through Ballinasloe town, to Portnick in the south and have a combined length of c. 6 km. The flood relief scheme may also potentially include river dredging and channel widening in certain locations to augment the flood defences. It is necessary to undertake a geotechnical and geo-environmental ground investigation to inform the design of this flood relief scheme. The investigation works comprise of cable percussive boreholes with rotary follow-on, dynamic probes, trial pits, slit trenches, foundation inspection pits, a geophysical survey, pumping test, environmental grab samples, and historic stone wall assessment. Sampling, plate load testing, and groundwater level monitoring are also required to classify the ground conditions.
