Tender description
Structural works at West Smithfield in connection with the proposed move of the Museum of London. The appointment of a contractor to perform structural works at West Smithfield in connection with the proposed move of the Museum of London. These works will focus solely on enabling, demolition and structural alteration works and including the following activities: — jack arch deconstruction, — modifications to existing structural frames, — new steel frames existing buildings, — formation of attenuation tanks, — core construction in existing buildings, — architectural concrete (rammed concrete), — extensive associated temporary works, — waterproofing details. Contractor's design portion works are likely to include, inter alia: — steelwork connections, — timber connections, including timber to concrete/steel/masonry, — precast wall, floor and stair unit. Amongst others. The works will be performed to 2 buildings: — the Victorian General Market, — the 1960s Poultry Market. And it is anticipated that sectional completions will be required. Due to the nature and complexity of the requirements, competitive dialogue is felt to be the most appropriate procedure as it permits structured discussions between the museum and perspective contractors which, in turn, allow for the refinement of offers following clarification and development of shared understandings. Division into lots is not felt appropriate in the case given the nature of the site and the resources available to the contracting authority for project management. It is also felt that the appointment of a single contractor will deliver the best value for money in this instance.
