Delt Shared Services is acting on behalf of Plymouth City Council as their support services provider. Plymouth City Council, via the Marine Business Technology Centre (MBTC) and in partnership with Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML), has secured funding to support the procurement and installation of an advanced communications system across the Smart Sound Plymouth marine testing and proving ground. The proving area offers a range of marine environmental conditions from comparative shelter to offshore hostile marine environments. To further facilitate the operation of remotely operated and autonomous vessels and enhance the ability to conduct marine research there is a requirement to deliver reliable high-speed communications to a diverse array of assets and platforms using the Smart Sound facility. Smart Sound Connect is a project that will deliver an advanced communications network across the entire smart sound to provide high speed communications to a diverse array of assets and platforms. Smart Sound Plymouth covers an approximate area of over 1 000 km2 and extends 20 nautical miles offshore. The scope of the procurement is to undertake the requirements analysis, design the technical solution for the mesh network, deliver the equipment and any appropriate spectrum licences and permissions from Ofcom and/or MoD, support the deployment of that equipment to the existing ‘Smart Sound’ assets, identify a package of equipment to be held locally to support projects under test at Smart Sound and provide and facilitate training for the lead users within Smart Sound.
