NR are looking at ways in which they can improve the process of adjusting rail track gauge which will benefit from the following: • safety and compliance, • reducing the risk by taking the manual element away from the task, • making this task more effective and efficient, • reduction in work force undertaking the task. At current, the manual process of adjusting gauge is carried out with a minimum of 4 people, which can increase dependent on the area of track which needs adjusting. There are 8 different sizes of tie bars which is usually dependent on the fault size, however all 8 need to be taken to site as until the task has started, you do not know what size is required. The overall task will take anywhere between 15 to 30 minutes; maybe even longer dependent on the complexity and size of the area needing adjusting. The supply of a rail gauge adjuster tool to Network rail for use on its rail network. Quantity of supply as yet unknown.
