Tender description
Joints in fusion magnets require a low-resistance transfer of current from one cable/winding to another, while at the same time ensuring that the cryogenic coolant is sealed and flows through the system. For STEP, this joint and its cryogenic seals need to be easily connected and disconnected using remotely operated robotic equipment, when the conductor is not charged and depressurised, at room temperature. UKAEA require the stage-gated development of a cryogenic sealing technology, which will be performed in collaboration with UKAEA teams, e.g. for robotic considerations, testing, instrumentation and data analysis during development through to a viable solution.
