Tender description
Energy House 2 (EH2) is a large-scale building physics test laboratory to be built at the University of Salford Manchester. The project Is part funded by the ERDF. The construction will begin in summer 2020 with the construction period set to last 12 months. The project builds on the successful Energy House project :(https://www.salford.ac.uk/built-environment/laboratories-and-studios/energyhouse ). A video of the project can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP3bsXeQKYU EH2 will be a unique facility and one of most advanced building test facilities on the planet. It has the following features: • 2 large chambers capable of having 2 family homes built in each one (4 homes in total) • Temperature controlled to within 0.5 °C from -20°C to +40 °C • Wind, rain, solar radiation and snow can be generated • These conditions provide testing facilities for housing covering 95% of the global population. The Energy House 2 Project has a requirement to solar irradiation in a large chamber environment to accomplish the following: • To provide heat gain to the facades of the test houses, this should include low "winter" and high "summer" levels and anywhere in between. • To provide heat gain inside the test houses, this will generally happen through the windows of the property and at a slower rate through the building fabric, the ability of the irradiation system to demonstrate an ability to penetrate glazing should be given in your proposal • To provide a drying effect following rainfall in the chamber to assist in the generation of an evaporative cooling effect • The system will NOT be used to replicate solar "light" only heat, however if your proposal can offer this then please provide details • The system will NOT be used to generate input for PV cells.
