Tender description

Counselling in education establishments — primary, secondary and ASL Schools. The Scottish Government has made funding available for counselling to be delivered in schools to pupils aged 10 and over. The aims and principles of this offer are: To provide, in partnership with local and national government — access to counselling through schools, enabling locally provided support for children and young people towards mental health and well-being, — high quality and effective counselling support as part of a range of supports available locally to children and young people, — counsellors who are accredited and working to an agreed standard across Scotland, and — access to counselling through primary, secondary and ASL schools, ensuring consistently high quality services locally, for pupils aged 10 and over. Glasgow City Council (Education Services) is seeking a dynamic provider to deliver one to one counselling to improve the mental health and well-being and emotional resilience of young people aged 10 years and over who are negatively affected or are at risk of being affecting by poor mental health and who are attending our 30 secondary schools, 138 primary schools and 24 ASL Schools. This counselling programme should complement the work of its own staff and many partners. The service will be targeted at young people (aged 10-18) and will be predominantly delivered in a school setting or appropriate community venue(s). It is expected that the provider will be flexible and responsive to local need as appropriate. Counselling support should be available throughout the year. It is expected that flexible, culturally appropriate and inequalities-sensitive approaches will be used and that the interested organisations will demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the pattern of inequalities in Glasgow and of the barriers in working in communities with high levels of deprivation. The service(s) should deliver interventions including: — individual 1:1 work (including intensive interventions/crisis based work depending on client needs), — group work delivery where appropriate. To maximise impacts, the service should deliver outcome and solution focused interventions. A key focus of the contract is in developing resilience and capacity to enable young people to better deal with challenges or adversity in their lives. Interventions should be time limited with on-going service users reviews built into the structure. The main focus of the individual work should be on talking therapies. If you are interested in this opportunity can you please complete the attached questionnaire and return it to the officer noted at the bottom.
