Tender description
Adult and community learning is funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency through the adult education budget. The main purpose of adult and community learning funded provision is to reach disadvantaged communities and individuals, to enable them to develop new skills, participate in learning and to progress towards further learning and/or sustainable employment. Community Learning supports wider government policies on localism, social justice, stronger families, digital inclusion and social mobility. We are seeking to support projects and ways of working that can support our long-term ambition for the district and will increase and diversify the number and type of adult learners in Kirklees, identifying and engaging underrepresented groups and providing them with their ‘first step’ into learning. Community-based learning should take place in non-pressurised learning contexts where people understand learners’ needs and treat learners equally, thereby increasing their confidence and self-esteem. Activity should not duplicate other provision, however it should be well positioned in the wider learning and employment landscape to ensure learner demand is met and robust and meaningful progression routes can be clearly identified and facilitated for learners. Adult and community learning activity will transform learner’s opportunities and help them to: • gain new skills to progress in employment; • improve their confidence to engage or re-engage with learning; • improve their health and social well-being; • develop their social responsibility; • better support themselves and their families; • improve literacy – communication, digital, financial; • identify their personal goals and take actions to reach them. Adult and community learning will provide learning opportunities under the following themes: • family learning (available under sub category 1); • volunteering (available under complementary call off under DPS category 2); • personal development (available under sub category 1 and 2); • digital Inclusion and IT (available under sub category 1).
