This ‘market sounding’ exercise is issued by London Underground (LU) and seeks to obtain market feedback to support the development of a long-term strategy for the London Underground Battery Locomotive fleet. This exercise includes a questionnaire to verify our understanding of the existing capabilities of the supply market, the new systems that could be applied to the Locomotive fleet and to provide an opportunity for suppliers to contribute to the strategy development process. The objectives of this market engagement exercise are to: • Enable LU to determine how a modern battery charging system might be fitted to the Battery Locomotive fleet. • Understand the needs for space and weight. • Determine what the interface requirements might be. • Identify additional potential business benefits that could be achieved from a modern electronically controlled system.
