The Walthamstow Wetlands (WW) is a 211 hectare nature reserve owned by Thames Water, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a RAMSAR wetlands site and one of the largest urban wetlands sites in Europe. Operationally, the site provides water to 3.5 million Londoners daily. In partnership with the London Borough of Waltham Forest, the free to access WW opened to local residents and visitors from further afield in October 2017. It has welcomed 850 000 visitors to date and raised the profile of this important site for nature conservation. The London Borough of Waltham Forest is now seeking an experienced partner, with vision to create a sustainable offer at the WW, providing a welcoming experience for our diverse local residents and visitors from further afield and promoting an understanding and enjoyment of the special natural landscape and habitats. London Borough of Waltham Forest requires the partner to: • demonstrate a thorough knowledge of managing heritage and nature conservation sites with approximate annual visitor numbers of 300 000, • lead a programme of conservation, ecology, education and volunteer activities to engage with diverse audiences, • manage visitor operations, including the visitor centre and maximise associated commercial, events management, food and beverage functions, • successfully raise income through external fundraising and on-site activity, • work collaboratively with WW partners to deliver agreed objectives.
