Summary of the work Skills for Care (delivery partner for Department of Health and Social Care) are looking for a Service Designer to join their multidisciplinary team to produce designs and write content for the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set service. Specialist role Designer Expected Contract Length Until June 2019 Latest start date Friday 1 March 2019 Who Speclialist Work With You will be working with: Delivery Manager Product Owner Business Analyst User Researcher Interaction Designer Technical Lead Developers Testers Subject Matter Experts What Specialists Work On For the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set 1) Facilitate Design workshops with the Service Team and Subject Matter Experts to gather requirements and understand user needs 2) Prototype designs based on user needs 3) Iterate designs based on user feedback 4) Write content for designs based on user needs 5) Work with developers to turn designs into production ready code Skills & Experience • Able to communicate effectively across organisational, technical and political boundaries, understanding the context. • Is able to make informed decisions based on user needs, available technology and value for money. • Visualises, articulates, solves complex problems and concepts, and makes disciplined decisions based on available information and research evidence. • Is able to demonstrate the ability to apply logical thinking, gathering and analysing information and evidencing key performance indicators. • Capable of making and guiding effective decisions, explaining clearly how the decision has been reached. • Has the ability to understand technical complexity and risks • Lead on collaborative design activities, influence others including subject matter experts and build consensus. • Able to apply technical knowledge and experience to create or design workable prototypes. • Able to apply technical knowledge and experience to write clear and user centred content. • Able to communicate designs to Developers and has an awareness of what is technically possible when designing. • Awareness of security and accessibility standards. • Deep knowledge and understanding of GOV.UK style guide and patterns. • Understands users and can identify who they are and what their needs are based on evidence. • Able to translate user stories and propose design approaches or services to meet user needs and engages in meaningful interactions and relationships with users. • Puts users first and can manage competing priorities. • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary design team • Ability to look at service design from an end to end perspective Nice to Haves • Experience of attending and presenting at GDS assessments • Experience of working on Government Services in the Beta phase • Experience of Agile working Work Location Skills for Care, West Gate, 6 Grace Street, Leeds LS1 2RP Working Arrangments The team works 2 days per week in Leeds (Monday and Tuesday) Skills for Care, West Gate, 6 Grace Street, Leeds LS1 2RP Then the following 2 days per week (Monday and Tuesday) in London. The team works remotely Wed-Fri each week. Is there an incumbent in place? If so, will they be applying? No there is no Service Designer currently in the team. We are recruiting for this role as our content designer is leaving. We are around 50% of the way through our Private Beta and feel that rather than replacing the Content Designer role like for like the team will get more value out of a Service Designer who will bring service design, content and prototyping attributes to the team. 2. Do you have a target day rate? Around £455 per day 3. Is this role Outside IR35? IR35 does not apply to this role. 4. What is the IR35 status? IR35 does not apply to this role 5. Where and when will the interviews be held? The interviews will be held on the 20th February in Leeds. 6. When are you looking for someone to start? The latest start date would be the 1 March 2019. However following the interviews if the successful candidate was available sooner we would like them to start as soon as possible. 7. What tools are you using to prototype? Invision, Sketch and the GOV.UK prototype kit. 8. Is there a pattern to the split between working in Leeds and London? Yes we do one week in Leeds and one week in London alternating for example week commencing 4 February is Leeds and then week commencing 11 February is London. 9. What area in London is the role based? The role is only based in London on Monday’s & Tuesdays every other week. The London Office is in the Holborn area of London about 30 minutes walk from Kings Cross station. The following Monday & Tuesday are based in Leeds. With Wednesday, Thursday & Friday as remote working. 10. What systems/products are already in use for Service/Content Design? For the designs we are using Invision, Sketch and the GOV.UK prototype kit. Our technology choice is Node JS. 11. Is the target day rate inclusive, or exclusive, of VAT? Exclusive of VAT 12. Is previous Public Sector experience essential? Experience of working on a Government Service and designing to meet the Government Digital Standard using the GOV.UK patterns and toolkit is essential. 13. Is any level of security clearance required for this role? No 14. What date will candidates be informed if they have made it to interview stage? 14th February 2019 15. Is it likely the contract length will be extended? At this stage we cannot confirm if the contract length will be extended.
