Manchester Airport Group is looking to improve its mobile network service across its 3 airports: Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands. The required outcome is to significantly improve the existing coverage for guests and operational staff. Current issues include; poor quality of service, slow download speeds and limitations to utilise new technology. Manchester Airport and London Stansted Airport are forecast to handle over 27 000 000 passengers in the next 12 months, East Midlands Airport is forecast to handle over 4 800 000 passengers in the next 12 months and handles over 368 000 tonnes of freight per year. MAG is planning to engage directly with Mobile Network Operators to perform some soft market testing and have engaged a 3rd party supplier to support with this. We are anticipating to award the main contract in the first quarter of 2020. MAG will be doing some soft market testing via a 3rd party supplier to help formulate the requirements and scope of the procurement, the overall aim is for improved mobile network service across the 3 airports: Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands. This resultant contract may be via a services contract or a concessions contract depending on the results of the soft market testing.
