Who Speclialist Work With The developer will support the Programme Manager and Service Manager to ensure MOD meets its business and transformation objectives for enhancing access to historic military service records via www.gov.uk. The developer will join a team which includes Programme Manager, Service Manager, Delivery Manager, Technical Architect and User Researcher. The developer will be expected to work with subject matter experts from MOD Disclosure Branches, Policy Leads and members of the public including key user groups for example, genealogists. What Specialists Work On Work on Request Historic Service Records project on www.gov.uk. Iterative development of prototype through private and public Beta stages ensuring readiness for live service in accordance with Government Digital Service Standard and Government Technology Code of Practice. Attendance at Service Assessments, documentation of development code and decisions and knowledge transfer to DBS staff is required. Incorporation of backlog items identified by ongoing user research including search tool for records data, integration of gov.uk/pay and gov.uk/notify services, death certificate data lookups and variable charging mechanisms. Will work closely with user researcher to iteratively develop service based on user needs and stories Where the Work Takes Place Remote working with travel to York or London and other locations if needed. Early Market Engagement Working Arrangements A Typical working day is 9 am-5pm (however working outside of these hours may be required due to business/project need), The role is suitable for remote working but there may be travel involved to York, Portsmouth, London or other regions of the country. Travel expenses outside of the base locations will be covered. Work Location Remote working with travel to York or London and other locations if needed. Security Clearance SC clearance is required. Additional T&Cs Cabinet Office (CO) Travel and Subsistence policy will apply. All expenses must be pre-agreed between the parties and must comply with the CO T&S policy. Skills & Experience Experience working alongside a user researcher and technical architect using user centred design practices to ensure user stories and user research are at the heart of product design Proven ability to seign services to meet valid user needs including planning, designing and conducting usability testing of prototypes. Proven experience in use of industy standard web application technologies such as HTML, CSS, Java, Javascript, PHP, Ruby and Python Excellent written and verbal communication including strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence external partners, suppliers and stakeholders Proven experience in use of service-based technologies such as SOAP, RESTful APIs, XML and JSON Experience of working using Agile Methodology Experience Delivering outputs in line with Government Digital Service Design and Manual and Government Technology code of practice and assessment process Experience of deploying and building web applications on Cloud Foundry using buildpacks and the CLI Experience of developing products to meet the needs of assisted digital users to ensure teh service is designed to enable a maximum digital take up.
